U.S. citizens were either: born in the U.S., born abroad with at least one U.S. citizen parent, acquired citizenship through naturalization, automatically became citizen because both their parents were U.S. citizens when they turned 16. They are able to produce one of the following documents:
- An unexpired U.S. passport; or
- A U.S. birth certificate; or
- A naturalization certificate issued by USCIS or the former INS; or
- A certificate of citizenship issued by USCIS or the former INS; or
- A report of birth abroad (form FS-240) issued by a U.S. embassy or consulate
